The first edited film was "Life of an American fireman, they used clips that were not related and put them all together to make a film/story.
When film was invented, cuts were not heard of so they would just keep filming until the film all ran out, and they were just filming somethign that you could just go out and see with your eyes, thats why cuts were such a good idea because then you could skip from scene to scene instead of just wathcing on and on and peple didnt want to watch something that they could just see, because then it wasnt a "story". If all that didnt happen then film wouldnt be wht it is today.
